Welcome to the StoryPortrait Media blog!
StoryPortrait Media is a multimedia production studio led by photographer and documentary filmmaker Genevieve Russell. Based in Santa Fe, NM, StoryPortrait Media helps nonprofits, businesses, artists and individuals that are committed to making a positive impact — creatively, socially and environmentally — share their story with the world.
The heart of our work is visual storytelling. Our documentary team uncovers the depth, breadth and inspiration of our clients’ unique mission, and then pairs character-driven narrative with intimate and stunning visuals. The resulting documentary video and still photography packages are succinct and engaging, transforming messages from words on a page (or screen) to intimate and compelling visual and emotional experiences.
Our work is grounded in community documentary projects that capture authentic, personal and compelling stories. Our projects have focused on a range of topics, including health and wellness, community building and sustainability, women in leadership, personal history, the arts and education. We live our passion, putting our subjects at ease and calling out not the crisis, but the compassion, beauty, and inspiration that exist in every story.

Genevieve Russell
Hi, I'm Genevieve, a documentary photographer, filmmaker and founder of StoryPortrait Media. Thanks so much for visiting the StoryPortrait Media blog!
I was born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia and I try to get back to that gentle, lush landscape frequently. However, lured by the light, the wide open sky, and a job at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, I moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in January of 2000. I've been living here ever since. I love going to the farmer's market when the chili's are roasting, hiking in the Sangre de Cristo mountains when the Aspens are at their peak. I love cooking up new recipes and drinking wine with friends. I love to sleep under the stars. I love to travel.
Another love, an obsession really – first time experiences. Which is why my business caters to the exploration and communication of stories, life-affirming stories. My goal? My art? My constant pursuit? Intellectually, I want to learn. Personally, I hope to share, connect, and engage in my community and world.
Life is fleeting. Photographing and listening to others teaches and allows the StoryPortrait Media team to be present in this moment. That is the greatest gift.
